Rigidized® Metals Corporation Brings Local Artist’s Vision to Life

“Dyad”

Rigidized® Metals’ pattern 60LTH, powder coated in a variety of colors, makes up local artist Shasti O’Leary-Soudant’s installation, “Dyad”, located inside the Buffalo AKG Art Museum in Buffalo, NY.

In sociology, a dyad is the smallest possible social group, consisting of two people. Their interaction is described as “dyadic.” Dyads can form through various connections—romantic, familial, professional, or otherwise—and may be equal or hierarchical (e.g., student–teacher). The strength of a dyad is measured by time spent together and emotional intensity. Derived from the Greek “duás” meaning “pair,” dyads are inherently unstable, as they rely on mutual participation, responsibility and esteem. In other words, sometimes, they’re tough, and sometimes, they’re wonderful.

In this piece, Shasti says, “The impetus behind “DYAD” was to pay tribute to my mother and my daughter, my roles in those relationships, and the conflicts and beauties that arise within them. In this piece, I wanted to talk about how those roles can reverse and transform over time. The mirrored surface at its base shows the inverse of the sculpture and evokes the idea of mutual growth, change and exchange.”
